NASHIK, DECEMBER 22, 2009: On December 13, 2009 the “Nashik Catholic Christian Samaj Sangha” gathered together at Gymkhana Hall in great numbers for their Annual Day Function during which about eight awards were conferred for educational and social activities. Among these Fr. Nelson Falcao, sdb was given the “Nashik Catholic Christian Samaj Sangha PURASKAR” for his literary work of Marathi translation and critical edition of the Kristapurana. Fr. Nelson’s work was highly praised for its quality, literary style and rigorous research. The Chief Guest for the function was Mr. Bhalachandra Gosavi, the Bhivandi-Nijampur Mahapalika Upayukta who affirmed that the Kristapurana with its Marathi translation has reached the people at large and that for about 200 years it will remain accessible to the common folk. A special invitee was Mr. Gilbert Mendonca, the Amdar of Mira-Bhayandar. In his speech, Mr. Gilbert underscored the fact that Kristapurana and its translation has been a great contribution not only to the Marathi Literature but to the global literary world. The Solemn Annual Function ended with a prayer song followed by a Sneha-Bhojan.
