MUMBAI, DECEMBER 22, 2009: Fr. Edwin D’Souza sdb, Rector of the Provincial House and of the Shrine of Don Bosco’s Madonna, Matunga celebrated his Silver Jubilee of Ordination in the presence of his Salesians, family and friends on December 20, 2009 during a Eucharistic celebration in the same Shrine that he prayed regularly as a nine year old boarder of Don Bosco, Matunga.
Surrounded by a host of Salesian Priests, brothers and sisters and members of his close family and wide circle of friends, the Shrine of Don Bosco’s Matunga lit up with the beautiful singing under the baton of Fr. Ian Doulton and his choir. The decorations added color and a setting worthy for a Silver Jubilee.
In his homily, Fr. Edwin highlighted the reason for his own magnificat. The Silver Jubilee was not so much a celebration of a ‘Dream fulfilled’ but rather the celebration of the fulfillment of ‘Dreams Undreamt’. God’s expectations of us are far beyond the one’s we have for ourselves. Recalling the way dreams moved in his life from Jesuit beginnings to Salesian traditions, from a nine year-old boarder at Don Bosco, Matunga to being an eleven year old aspirant at Lonavala, the path to dreams undreamt began to unfold. Silver was just a milestone, Gold the promise ahead.
Celebrations followed with a ‘Toast’ that came straight from the heart of Fr. Ian. Fun-filled games, Christmas caroling and a sumptuous meal followed. In the year of the Priest, Fr. Edwin had every reason to sing his own magnificat, ‘The Lord has done great things for me’.
