MUMBAI, DECEMBER 23, 2009: Don Bosco Centre for Learning, Kurla organised the annual Bal Mela for about 500 children from the neighbouring Naupada Municipal School this morning. The theme for the event was “Bankar Balak Aaya Masiha, Aao Manayein Unke Sang Hamari Khushiyaan” with a specific focus on Child Rights. The entire programme reflected the importance of enjoying childhood responsibly and learning to fight for one’s legitimate rights.
The students coming from very poor backgrounds and comprising mainly of other faiths, were presented a relevant skit with a Christmas message. The carolers with Santa-caps added gaiety to the stage programme. The exuberant dancers shook the stage with their electrifying performance. The students were then given a chance to participate in the various fete games organised by the students of the Campus. Fishing the bottle, finding the coin, killing the rat, feeding Santa, aiming for the bull’s eye and many other fun games kept the children going. The earth-shattering sound provided by ‘Richie Sounds’ added the much-required decibels, with everyone present grooving to the thumping beats.
Snacks and prizes sponsored by the many benefactors, students and staff of the Campus sent out the central message of the Christmas revelry. The programme was wonderfully executed, primarily by the students of SJITI, with support and collaboration from DBIHMCT. The students rose to this occasion thus radiating joy, cheer, goodwill. Mr. Royal D’Souza coordinated the event with ample guidance and support from Mr. Xavier Fernandes, Principal of SJITI; Mr. Lavy D’Costa, Co-ordinator of DBIHMCT and Fr. Richard D’Silva sdb.
