PUNE, JANUARY 4, 2010: The Education Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation has conferred the award for “Excellence in Education and Administration 2008-2009” on Fr. Donald Fernandez sdb, Principal of Don Bosco High School, Junior College and NIOS, Yerwada on January 3, 2010, in a glittering ceremony held at the Bal Gandharva Auditorium in the presence of various dignitaries from the Education Department and other invited guests. Mr. Ramchandra Jadhav, the Deputy Director of Education, conferred the shawl, the memento and citation on Fr. Donald. He lauded Fr. Donald’s yeoman efforts in educational management.
In his stint as Principal of DB School and Junior college he has developed the infrastructure of the Junior College in the Arts, Science and Commerce streams. The setting up of the IT laboratory, the conversion of a rugged playground into lush green playing fields and sprucing up the entire campus into a clean and green environment are other significant milestones achieved during Fr. Donald’s tenure. As the leader of an educational hub with high school, junior college and NIOS wings, Fr. Donald brings to bear all his administrative and human skills towards creating the ambient of a Salesian centre where the young can grow towards an integral humanism.
The award comes in recognition of Fr. Donald’s leadership in educational strategies with a definite option for the marginalized. There is no doubt that Fr. Donald has a special place in his heart for the poor and strives hard to give equal educational opportunities to the children of the Yerwada locality.
