PUNE, JANUARY 19, 2010: "We have a reason to celebrate", voiced the Salesians at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Pune along with friends of Don Bosco… to celebrate the 150 years of walking with the young but this time it's happening with a different beat.
To celebrate the one hundred and fifty years anniversary of the Salesian congregation and to promote the interests of the poor and abandoned youngsters, Don Bosco Youth Centre, Pune has organized a football tournament entitled "Bosco Cup 2010" in aid of the underprivileged youth of our society. 32 teams (of second and third division) are participating under the banner of PDFA. The tournament will be from January 17- 24, 2010.
It all began with a welcome and lightning of the lamp, invoking God's blessings. Present for this occasion were Mr. Mohan Singh Rajpal (Mayor of Pune) and Mr. Peter Lobo - Senior Inspector of ATS (anti terrorist squad). The chief guest for the inaugural function was Fr. Cletus D'souza who spoke to the youngsters about Don Bosco existence for the past 150 years and thus encouraged them to give their 100% for their team. During his speech, the Mayor appreciated the initiative taken by the Salesians who cater to the needs of the poor and the underprivileged youth and also boosted the youth to play a game that would build healthy friendship and unity. And thus the "Bosco Cup 2010" was declared open by Mr. Peter Lobo who chipped the football into the goal from the centre of the ground.
Bosco Cup 2010 will continue for the next seven days…we wish success to all the teams.
