WALVANDA, JANUARY 21, 2010: On January 16, 2010 Bosco Samajik Vikas Sanstha organized a Haldi-Kumkum programme for women in Sakhra village. The purpose of the program was to bring out the strength and the unity among the women in the village. The ceremony began with Mr. Balu Borade welcoming everyone present .a prayer song sung by a group of village girls followed the welcome address. The chief guests for the ceremony were Ms. Pradnya Kulkarni, professor of K.V. College, Jawhar and Mr. Pashte, principal of Ashram school, Sakhra. Our schools are a suicide point. No sensible kid feels good about coming to school. They say that school is second home but my home is in a mess, it is dysfunctional, there is no proper partnership and parenting is from a distance, a remote control, no real presence.
Ms. Pradnya encouraged the women to work together for their betterment. She also mentioned the work that women are doing for the development of themselves and the village. She appealed to the women to come forward without any hesitation and actively participate in the village activities.
Mr. Pashte spoke about the importance of women’s education. Few of the village ladies then came forward and thanked Bosco Samajik Vikas Sanstha for the regular guidance and encouragement. The village ladies began with the Haldi-Kumkum rituals. They smeared haldi and kumkum on each others forehead and exchanged sweets by wishing each other a happy life. Thus the program brought about unity among the women. The NSS volunteers of Don Bosco Engineering College, Kurla actively participated in organizing this event.
