BORIVLI, JANUARY 27, 2010: On January 23, 2010 Bosco Boys Home organized a Haldi Kumkum Programme for the poor and marginalized women from Borivali and Dahisar areas. It was a magnificent gathering of the SHG’s and other women from the slums to celebrate their unity and solidarity on the eve of Makarsankranti.
The programme began with welcoming of guests by way of an aarti. The lamp was lit by chief guests Fr. Anaclete D’mello, Fr. Anthony Santarita, Dr. Prasad Gaikwad, Ms. Nanda Kambli and Ms. Nanda Bhoir. Mr. Melvin Pangya from the Development Office gave the introductory speech about organizations and various initiatives in the province. The organization not only works in urban but also to reaching out the poor and marginalized groups in the tribal areas also.
Fr. Anaclete told the women that power and courage rests in their hands too. The women should not limit themselves. The organization is ready to expand the support not only to women but also wants to reach out to youth and children of the area. He also made known to them the various courses that are conducted in the premises for poor and drop out youths.
Dr. Prasad Gaikwad spoke about women’s health issues. He emphasized on homemade remedies and major precautions to be taken during the sickness. Ms. Nanda Kambli, a social worker spoke about the unity and empowerment of women. She conducted various games and a sing song session.
Mr. Dayanand Patil and Br. Maurice have taken eager interest to make the event a success by mobilizing the local Mandals and people.
