BIS #1745 STRESS MANAGEMENT

BORIVLI, FEBRUARY 1, 2010:
A meeting of Parents and Teachers of students studying from class 5 – 10 was organized at Don Bosco High School, Borivli on “Stress Management” on January 22, 2010.

The meeting began with an opening prayer and a prayer song. Fr. Ronald Menezes, Rector addressed the parents on this sensitive topic of Stress Management to help understand children in the wave of rising suicides in the city. Don Bosco High School stresses on Faith Formation, Education to Livelihood and Social harmony as its important goals. Fr. Ronald emphasized that the issue of teenage suicides needs to be dealt with utmost concern and the issue of stress among teenagers needs to be tackled by school, teachers and parents jointly.

Fr. Ronald gave a presentation as to how to detect the warning signs and symptoms of stress and depression. The competitive spirit of today’s parents and their high expectations from their children, peer pressure and the pressure put in by coaching classes to score more invariably affect children.

Fr. Roland recommended the following:

· Avoid comparing your child with a sibling or any other child.

· Avoid forcing the child to fulfill our unfulfilled dreams.

· Parents must spend quality time with their child everyday.

· Don’t worry too much about Rote Studies all the time.

· Parents need to be firm and yet have a loving attitude with reasonable, expectations from their children.

The meeting came to an end by a vote of thanks delivered by Fr. George Carlos, Principal and distribution of a handout on A- Z of stress management to all the parents
