MUMBAI JUNE 1, 2010: Thousands of people flocked for the solemn Eucharistic celebration on the feast of Mary Help of Christians at Don Bosco Shrine Grounds, Matunga on May 24, 2010. The principal celebrant was Fr. Elson Barretto, Provincial Economer for the Province of Mumbai. He was joined at the altar by Fr. Edwin D’Souza, Rector of the Shrine of Don Boscos’ Madonna and Fr. Wilfred D’Souza, Rector of the Provincial House.
The entire Eucharistic celebration had a very lively touch with the wonderful choir led by Fr. Ian Doulton. In his homily, Fr. Elson Barretto enumerated that Mary Help of Christians has been guiding the church for the past centuries and even today. She accompanied the disciples and she leads us to be faithful and have a strong Christian identity.
Before the conclusion of the Mass, Fr Elson Barretto released Volume II of “Pray Sing - Words & Music Edition, hymns for Liturgical and paraliturgical services”, published by Tej-Prasarini, Don Bosco Communications. Introducing the book, Fr. Joaquim Fernandes, Director of Tej-Prasarini, said that publishing this book had been a mammoth task that it took nearly 5 years to publish both the volumes. Pray Sing - Words and Music edition - Volume II brings to completion our initiative to provide a reliable music-notation guide for church leaders and those who are responsible for animation of praise and worship in the church. He thanked Fr. Blany Pinto the project co-ordinator who worked assiduously and tirelessly compiling and editing the project. Fr. Aloysius Furtado who composed melodious chord sequences for the hymns, Fr. Kenneth Pereira who patiently checked the music notation and the proof reading of all the hymns. Ms Rochelle Rodricks who worked silently on DTP design and layout. Ms Chrisann Misquitta who worked tirelessly for the past few months editing and formatting the hymnal. It was due to her efforts we could see this book being completed on time and with perfection. Speaking on this occasion Fr. Elson Barretto thanked and appreciated each and every one involved in bringing this volume to light. He mentioned that it is a gift to the church and this book could enhance our singing in the church. It was a magnanimous task and he thanked and congratulated the entire team at Tej-Prasarini, Don Bosco Communication for Pray Sing Words and Music Edition Volume II.
Parish priests, choir and Song Leaders could own a copy to teach, guide and lead the congregation to a more fruitful singing thereby helping them to understand the meaning of “ He who sings well, Prays Twice”
