BIS #1950 BLAST OF A FEAST

Bento D’Souza and Franklin Coutinho
AHMEDNAGAR, AUGUST 4, 2010: On July 16 St. Anne’s Parish started its novena in honor of St. Anne there was the Triduum celebrated. Fr. Dominic Martins, Fr. Blaise Fernandes and Fr. Michael Bansode from the neighboring Salesian communities officiated and preached inspiring sermons during the Triduum. The themes chosen for the Triduum were Daily Prayer; Sacredness of Home and Christian service was aptly communicated in the Triduum homilies.

On June 25, 2010 more than one thousand parishioners gathered at St. Anne’s parish to celebrate the feast with great pomp. The celebration began at 9.00 am with the entrance procession followed by the Eucharistic celebration. The main celebrant was the newly appointed parish priest Rev. Fr. Thomas D’Costa. He also gave the homily. Salesians and Jesuits from the neighborhood also joined as concelebrants.

There was a lot of solemnity and colourful decorations in the celebration as the youth group decorated the church sanctuary. Sr. Cecilia of the Sacred Heart Convent conducted the choir. After the Eucharist there was a short entertainment program. Sheryl D’Souza and her dance troupe “SAI” put up two spectacular hip-hop dance performances. There was felicitation of the Priests and nuns followed by successfully passed students of Xth and XIIth who were given gifts of appreciation, as it is a tradition of Ahmednagar Parish. The top three Xth standard rankers in the parish were Nisha Ian Lemos (91.82%), Terence Franklin Coutinho (90.36%) and Sharadha Adhav (85.64%). Thirteen students were given cash gifts and tokens of appreciation, in all thirty students of Xth and XIIth were felicitated.

Salesian Cooperators as Fund Raiser brought the function to a close, organized tombola. A slight drizzle chilled the atmosphere, but it did not dampen the spirit of the festivities. St Vincent De Paul society from the parish ran a food stall to raise income for their outreach activities for the year.

The whole celebration ended on a happy and sweet note with a festive meal for the Religious and Clergy who had come. May the devotion to St. Anne grow in the hearts and the homes of all the people and increase the life span of our Grandparents.
