KOLKATA, DECEMBER 6, 2010: The BOSCOM General Assembly met for its annual general body meeting in Kolkata at the province communication center, Nitika from November 26 to November 27, 2010.

Twenty-nine members from the ten provinces of India together with the SPCSA in charge for BOSCOM Fr. Thomas Anchukandam, Provincial of INK met to discuss the future plans and interlinking of all the Salesian communication centers in India under the single banner BOSCOM. Quoting USA President Barack Obama, Fr. Thomas said great things are achieved through much struggles and failures. If we remain positive and go ahead with the right attitude everything is possible, success will definitely be there.

Fr. Glorious Steve INT and the editor of Salesian Bulletin took charge as the new delegate for BOSCOM India from Fr. K.J. Louis. Fr. Joaquim Fernandes INB and director of Tej-Prasarini, Don Bosco Communications took charge after being elected as the General Secretary of BOSCOM South Asia.

The main agenda of the assembly was to discuss the production of a theater release commercial movie about Don Bosco and his system by a professional film director. The assembly felt a project of such a kind would be an excellent opportunity to make known the person of Don Bosco and the many success stories. Besides, this project would be a platform from which the Salesian Indian could promote itself under a single brand name. Production of a commercial movie would in turn act as an advertisement to the Government and other funding agencies who would join hands with the Salesians to carry out Don Bosco’s mission in India said Fr. Thomas A.

The other major agenda of the assembly was the presentation of the works done in all the centers of the ten provinces of India pertaining to formation and training, information management, products and publications and the future plans. In the past one year around four film festivals were successfully conducted, more than thirty five major books were published, and over a dozen audio productions were produced. All the provinces had successfully posted their respective province websites on the internet. A major break through which made it possible was the acquiring of a separate Server for BOSCOM in the USA. Besides, regular short movies, documentaries and training courses were organized in all the centers.

The second day, the assembly was divided into groups and the movie project was discussed at length especially regarding the financial aspect. As recommended by the SPCSA, a more detail study would be done by the core group that was formed and would be presented to the SPCSA before going on to the next stage.

Later in the day, the BOSCOM Executive Body meeting of the various delegates met and discussed pertinent issues related to BOSCOM. The day ended with a short felicitation programme for the outgoing office bearers Fr. K. J. Louis and Fr. Arokia Raj.
