PUNE, FEBRUARY 8, 2011: Six young Salesians – Jesu Robinson, Rixon Nigrel, Osborn Furtado, Rolvin D’Mello of the Mumbai Province, together with Royston D’Souza and Jason Coelho of the Panjim Province, were ordained deacons by Bishop Thomas Dabre, at Sacred Heart Parish, Yerwada on Sunday, February 6. They chose the theme “A life lived in Christ for others” for their diaconal ordination.
In his homily, Bishop Thomas spoke about the ministry of service in the Church. He pointed out that the deacons are called in a special way to serve with love, obey and pray in today’s challenging world. After the Eucharist, Fr. Michael Fernandes, Provincial of the Mumbai Province, thanked the Bishop and the staff of Don Bosco Youth Centre. He congratulated the six deacons for their courageous "Yes" to the Lord. Deacon Osborn proposed the vote of thanks on behalf of the new deacons. A felicitation programme and dinner was organized for the deacons along with their parents and relatives at Don Bosco Youth Centre.
