BIS #2336 MINISTRY OF THE WORD

Flona Tauro
BORIVLI, MARCH 21, 2011: On March 6, 2011, the commissioning of twenty five successful students of the Ministry of the Word (MoW) programme was held at St. Pius X College, Goregaon. Out of these students two of them namely, Mr. Albert D’souza and Mrs. Flona Tauro were from St. John Bosco Parish, Borivali (W). The need for God’s Word is great, and God will surely supply that need (Phil 4:19).

MoW began to help enthusiastic men and women in the Catholic Church to study the Word of God in order to animate others. Albert and Flona testify that the insightful lectures by experienced and gifted professors, discussions and clarifications on contemporary Christian and inter-religious issues enlightened them and helped them go beyond the text. The fellowship with like-minded people of all ages and professions certainly helped them grow. The atmosphere at MoW is fun, friendly and interactive. Studying scripture has brought healing and peace in different areas of their life. They have experienced an increase in faith, hope and confidence. They personally feel that one needs a calling, a very beautiful experience where ultimately the word minister realizes that there is so much more to Sacred Scripture than one can think of.

We also need to strengthen our knowledge of the Word of God to counteract different sects and to help others do the same. Studying the Bible and committing a Sunday is not difficult, with God’s grace and a willing heart .You must be willing to serve the Church on a stable basis as a Minister of the Word on the completion of the programme. Every year the Word Ministers are re-commissioned in their respective Parishes. They are also expected to send a descriptive annual report to the seminary about the work they undertake as Word ministers. Fr Ronald Menezes, Parish Priest of St. John Bosco, Borivali has been very supportive and motivating throughout the course.
