BIS #2438 FEAST OF ST. DOMINIC SAVIO- DIVYADAAN

Cl. Narzary Nobin
DIYVADAAN, JULY 7, 2011:The celebrations of the feast of St. Dominic Savio in the community of Divyadaan commenced with an animated Meditation, followed by a solemn Eucharist. During the Holy Mass the community prayed for Fr. Savio D’ Souza, the Rector, and Cl. Dominic Ralte.  As the Mass began the chapel of Divyadaan was resonated with the heavenly music that filled the Chapel. Fr. Felix Fernandes, the main celebrant, preached on Dominic Savio who came to the oratory of Don Bosco at a very young age with a holy desire of becoming a saint. Dominic, said Fr. Felix, was enthralled by the motto of Don Bosco, “Da mihi animas cetera tolle” which he personally experienced in Don Bosco’s Oratory. The whole sermon was oriented towards the challenges of sanctity among the young and especially among the Salesians. Fr. Felix quoted Pope John Paul II who had called Salesians to imitate Don Bosco in the words, “My dear Salesians be Saints”. While quoting Don Rua with regards to sanctity of Don Bosco he said: “The holiness of the Sons proves the holiness of the Father”.

This day was an exceedingly special one to all of us young Salesians because it was the feast of a young Saint who is one of the first fruits of the educational system of Don Bosco.  The feast of Dominic Savio witnessed greater enthusiasm and joy with the lightening tournament in the evening as all the brothers and fathers came out in the open to enjoy the thrilling games. The occasional showers of rain only added flavor to the already heart throbbing games. The thrilling games were concluded with a delicious festive tea.

The evening of the feast was coloured with yet another spiritual event, the solemn and a well animated evening prayer centered on the life and sanctity of St. Dominic Savio. Soon after the solemn evening prayers, the community had a festive dinner, which was followed by screening of a movie. Thus the feast of St. Dominic Savio came to an end on a joyful note.
