BORIVLI, JULY 28, 2011: The Don Bosco Inter-School Chess Challenge and the Mumbai Open Blitz Chess Tournament were held at Don Bosco High School, Borivli. The event was conducted by the Indian Chess School under the aegis of Bombay Chess Association. The commencement of the event was blessed by Rev. Father Ronald Menezes, the Rector.
The Don Bosco Inter-School Chess Challenge attracted a record of two hundred and seventy eight entries, comprising the cream of Chess talent (including more than fifteen FIDE rated players) from schools across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane District to decide the champions.
The tournament was conducted on a Seven-Round Swiss League basis with a time-control of Sixty Minutes+ ten Seconds. The players were divided into four categories; namely Boys and Girls Under-7, Under-9, Under-11 and Under-15.
In a keenly contested event, a total of sixty-trophies were awarded in prizes to the players while cash prizes were awarded for the Blitz event. The Prize Distribution ceremony was presided over by Rev. Father George Carlos.
With a spate of Chess activities around the year, Don Bosco High School, Borivali has become a preferred destination for the Chess players.
