WALVANDA, AUGUST, 11, 2011: On August 8, 2011 Bosco Samajik Vikas Sanstha organized a one day training programme for the members of the Gram Panchayat at Suryamal, Khodala. Thirty five members from five Gram Panchayat participated actively in the training programme. The purpose of this programme was to get a better understanding about the Panchayati Raj Institution and the development of their villages through it.

The training began with the lighting of the lamp by Fr. Anaclete D’mello, the village Sarpanch and other Panchayat members. Fr. D’Mello expressed that the Panchayat can play a vital role in coming Gramsabha by proposing new developmental works; as a result, people would get work at village level.  Also PRI can implement the NREGA/ MREGA act and educate people about it.

Mr. Prakash Wagh was the Resource person for the programme. He gave inputs on the setting, the structure and the role of Gram Panchayt in village development. He explained the roles of Sarpanch, Deputy Sarpanch, Gram Sevak and of Police Patil.

The sessions were very lively and participative. Many members asked for clarification about the roles of Sarpanch and Gram Sevak and the provisions made in NREGA Act. The Sarpanch from Suryamal gave the valedictory speech saying, that many Panchayat members were not aware of the provisions of the Act.

The Wakad pada Sarpanch said that they will go to each villager and convince them about the importance of attending the Gram Sabha. The Kiniste Deputy Sarpanch expressed that they will take care that the women participation will increase in Gram Sabha. She further said that the youth and the women from the villages will take keen interest and also demand the Panchayat to organize a separate Gram Sabha for women before the main Gram Sabha.
