LONAVLA, AUGUST 16, 2011: Don Bosco High School and Junior College Lonavala celebrated the sixty fifth anniversary of India’s Independence with a difference. As Don Bosco Lonavala is celebrating its Golden Jubilee the theme for the occasion was, ‘UNITY FOR A GOLDEN CAUSE’.
The students gathered in the hall at 8:30am. The programme began by escorting the Chief Guest to the stage. The Chief Guest for the occasion was ‘Uncle Bhagwan’ the senior most memberon the support staff of Don Bosco Lonavala. Mr. Bhagvan has been a part of this institute for the last thirty five years and still continues to render his services to the institution with joy and love. The chief guest along with the Management of Don Bosco Lonavala initiated the celebrations of Independence Day by the lighting of the lamp. A short prayer service reminded us to become responsible citizens of our country. The High School students presented a patriotic song. The College girls danced to the tunes of a popular patriotic song. However the programme was punctuated by the voice of the nightingale of Don Bosco Lonavala, Nehal Khandelwal performing ‘A Mere Vatanke Logo’. Three speeches in Hindi, Marathi and English enlightened us on the importance of this day. The Chief Guest for the occasion shared his experience with the Fathers and Brothers of Don Bosco Lonavala. The ceremony concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the Principal, Fr. Lorenzo D’Souza.
A Solemn Eucharist followed after the school celebrations. Later in the afternoon was the reunion of the Past Pupils. Around eighty five Past Pupils were present for the reunion celebrations. The Rector Fr. Cletus D’Souza warmly welcomed them to Don Bosco Lonavala and exhorted them to rejoice and live life to the full. The celebrations concluded with tea for all.
As we celebrated the feast of the Assumption of Mary let us ask for the grace to be meek and humble of heart.
