KURLA, SEPTEMBER, 5 2011: On August 22, 2011, Don Bosco Institute of Management & Research welcomed into its fold Batch II of students. The Orientation Day which was held for them began with a meaningful Prayer service created around the theme of ‘Light’. The MMS II batch welcomed the MMS I Batch by lighting their candles which signified the passing of knowledge gained.
The Executive Director, Fr. Mario Vaz welcomed Fr. Rector, the students, parents, and staff members. Fr. Adolph Furtado, Rector, in his key note address appreciated the various initiatives of the Institute especially the NGO experience of students and the Dharavi Management Fest. These two forays, he hoped, would make students aware of how much can be done with so little. To substantiate this point, he gave the example of how a small country like Israel has more venture capital than USA and is also a larger IT provider than USA. He also stated that he would like the Management Institute to focus on Research.
The Principal Advisor, Mr. Conrad Saldanha stressed that Don Bosco Institute of Management and Research emphasized the importance of achieving ‘Excellence with a Soul’. He also pointed out how the Management Institute had responded to the needs being felt namely; Industry – Academia linkages, getting the best Faculty, creating a level playing field by giving remedial/tutorial classes, making the student job - ready, the Social entrepreneurship cell and so on. He assured the parents that the focus of the Institute will always primarily remain in striving to create good citizens as per the ideals of Don Bosco.
The students demonstrated in great detail their learnings from their involvement in working with NGOs , the Dharavi Management Fest, the different Guest faculty from industry, the different pedagogies used by Faculty, the Industry visits, the connecting with the students of Don Bosco University, Guwahati, the fun involved through the celebration of different days (Friendship Day, Valentine’s Day etc.) and the winning of competitions participated in namely, football. The overall message of the MMS II batch to the new entrants was that this program is tough and therefore needs total application and involvement.
The program ended with the Principal Advisor thanking all those who were involved in making this function a memorable one.
