WADALA, DECEMBER 13, 2011: St. Joseph's High School, Wadala, celebrated its Sports Festival on December 9, 2011. The theme this year was 'Forests for People and People for Forests'.
The Sports Festival began with the ushering in of the dignitaries - Fr. Godfrey our Rector, Fr. Bernard our Principal, Fr. Vivian our Asst Parish Priest and School Counsellor, Fr. Sanjay our Administrator, Miss Nicole Britto our Vice Principal, Mrs. Sangita the Secondary Supervisor and Mrs. Matilda the head teacher of the Primary section. The school flag was then hoisted, the torch was lit, the sportsman prayer and pledge said
..and then the much awaited Sports Day was declared open by Fr. Rector.
The Sports Festival kick started with the impressive March Past by the four houses namely Red, Green, Blue and Yellow. This was followed by the class floats of the Pre-Primary and the Primary, drill display by the Primary, yoga display by the Secondary and the class floats again this time by the Secondary.
The class floats were indeed a treat to the eyes. Classes right from the kindergarten to the Std. X put in their supreme efforts to prepare the best float. Their themes were 'different forests of the world'. These classes left no stone unturned when it came to putting up a two minutes presentation on the world forest assigned to them complete with music, song and dance. The judges surely did have a tough job on hand to decide the winners.
Thereafter, track events for the Primary and the KG, the finals of the Basketball and Handball matches and the tug of war were held. It is very rightly said that 'Sports do not build character. They reveal it.' This was seen in the team work and team spirit displayed by the students in their attempt to win points for their teams. The teachers and students cheered and encouraged their respective houses.
At the prize distribution ceremony, the Yellow House was declared the best house. Master Mohan Bhandari of Std. X was awarded the Senior Champion Trophy. Master Clinton M of Std. IX emerged the runner up. Championship trophies were also awarded to the winners and runners-up of the other categories: Inters, Juniors, Sub-Juniors and Midgets. In March Past the trophy for the display of uniformity and order went to the Red House. For the class floats, Std. IV were the winners in the Primary section. In the secondary section, Std. V won the trophy in the V-VII section, while Std. X were the deserving winners of the prestigious trophy in the VIII-X section.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Fr. Bernard Fernandes who thanked everyone responsible for the success of the day the staff, the parents and the past pupils who made this wonderful day possible. The Sports festival concluded with the lowering of the school flag and the singing of the school anthem.
