WADALA, DECEMBER 17, 2011: St. Joseph's High School, Wadala, is proud to add another feather to its cap this time around by winning the MSSA u-16 basketball tournament. In a tremendous display of skill and determination, our basketball players overpowered the mighty Don Bosco Matunga 'A' team in the finals held at Hoopers, Five Gardens, on Thursday, December 15, 2011. The team stamped its authority when it outplayed the opponents in the finals 37-18. The victory was indeed sweet since our team suffered a heartbreaking loss in the finals of the DSO tournament against Don Bosco, Matunga, earlier this scholastic year. Smit Shinde, Ajay Savla, Moneel Bheda, Mayank and the skipper Venil shone in all the matches, while the other players of the team too contributed their bit.
The team met stiff resistance in the semifinals against P. G. Garodia, whom they beat 47-40 through a scintillating final three-minute display of the last quarter. As the adage goes in cricket, 'The game is not won/lost till the last ball is bowled'! In the earlier matches, our team won against I.E.S. 36-13, trounced Rustomjee International 51-01, and beat Don Bosco, Matunga 'B' 37-24. Congratulations to our team players, and the two coaches, Mr. Raju and Mr. Somnath, in particular for placing tremendous faith in the abilities and strengths of our team players.
In handball, our u-16 team bagged the third place in the MSSA organized handball tournament. They defeated Manek Cooper H. S. and Garodia International before losing to Manek Vidyamandir (IES) in the semifinals. However they beat Bombay Cambridge to secure the third place in the competition. Kudos to our team and the coach Mr. Raj!
