NORTHERN ARABIAN VICARIATE, DECEMBER 19, 2011: "What so ever you do to the least of my brothers that you do unto me". It was the Salmiya Parish Youth organizing a memorable day for the house maids on Friday, December 16, 2011. The Courtyard of the St. Therese Church was adorned with unique decors. The event began at 12:15 pm with the youth welcoming the maids.
The event was well compared by Rilson, who was versatile in four different languages -English, Konkani, Hindi and Malayalam. He expressed his appreciation to the participants by acknowledging their contribution to the families where they work. He mentioned that because of the maids mainly couples are able to work outdoors. He added that they are the ones preparing food, keeping the house clean and putting the laundry in order. Fr. Lionel Braganza, in charge of the youth, gave a inspiring speech appreciating them for their care and concern. This was followed by the Christmas march, which was a surprise package. All the participants got on to the floor for a march while Fr. Lionel, along with the youth, led the march. It was indeed a joy to see all marching, waving their hands and clapping at the sound of melodious music played by our youth musician Joshua.
Lots of games were played and plenty of spot prizes were won. Props were provided to each team to play a game "prepare a live Santa." It was hilarious to see female Santa's everywhere. A dance competition was held and Maria and. Eliza won the first and the second prize. Fr. Joy gave the Christmas message while Fr. Blany thanked Fr. Lionel, the lay animators and the youth who organized this event. Bianca, the youth coordinator, expressed her gratitude to all the youth for organizing the event. Fr. Francis blessed the food and the maids helped themselves to a sumptuous meal. As the maids left the hall, each person was gifted with a hamper.
Most of the maids had tears in their eyes. The youth who organized the events reminded the maids of their children whom they have left behind in India.
