JESUS CHRIST, HE DIED FOR ME

Alex D'Mello

BORIVALI, APRIL 09, 2012:  Jesus died for me on the cross, am I ashamed to take up my cross? Jesus came to this world with a mission and he became obedient till his mission was fully accomplished.

The liturgy began with the priests prostrating themselves before the altar. Mark D'Silva who gave the commentary for the Good Friday service at St. John Bosco Church, Borivli, very well explained every part of the liturgy. The Passion Narrative was sung by Fr. George Carlos, Fr. Anthony Santarita and Fr. Ronnie. Fr. Carlos was the main celebrant for the Good Friday service. In his homily, while speaking of the love of parents for their children, he emphasized the unconditional love of Jesus for us all. Just as parents at times pay the price for the fault of their children, Jesus died as a substitute for us; he became a "scapegoat" for us so that we may move into his life which is eternal. Jesus is willing to die on the cross again and again for our sins and salvation if need be. What a great sacrifice for the sake of humanity! For this reason Good Friday is also called Great Friday. On this day a supreme sacrifice was made on the hills of Calvary. Fr. Carlos also made a reference to the movie, "The Passion of Christ" and explained through examples how this film made a great impact on the lives of many people.

Mr. Amon Daniel and his choir chose appropriate hymns and responses and it was a delight to listen to them and join in the singing. At the end of the service the congregation left in silence reflecting on the death of Jesus and especially on the agony of Mary as she witnessed the death of her Son.
