Awareness Campaign

ANDEHRI, 30 APRIL, 2012; If we look around today we see thousands of children on the streets, railway platforms and other public places been abused and exploited. They suffer from hunger and homelessness; work in harmful conditions; they are being trafficked for labour and sexual purposes and also have limited opportunities for education.

These children deserve to be loved and protected and given an opportunity to enjoy their childhood. Ensuring that every child gets his childhood we requires small contributions from every member of the society. As a part of a society sensitization program, Don Bosco Balprafulta's Talaash Team organised an Awareness Campaign on 27th April 2012 at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST). The campaign was organised to

• Create awareness among all people with regard to the plight of these children
• Disseminate information and knowledge to all people on the issue of Child Protection
• Motivate people to come forward to help children who are in difficult situations and take action against the people who are

   violating  children's rights.

The campaign was inaugurated by Mr. K.K. Thakur (Divisional Personnel Officer- Railway), Mr. Surendra Deshmukh (Sr. Police Inspector-GRP) and D.V. Shenoy (Station Manager-CST. Various methods like  poster exhibitions, pamphlet distribution and street plays were used to reach out to the people.  The poster exhibition covered issues like child labour, child abuse and problems of street children and child rights. Along with this, pamphlets were distributed throughout the day and through a street play, people were sensitized towards children's issues and on how they could contribute and make a difference.

A large number of citizens visited the Poster Exhibition and wanted to know how best they could help such children. The street play proved to be a great hit, drawing the attention of many and helping to reach out to more than 5,000 people and spread the message of Child Protection.
