LIVING ON IN HEARTS FOREVER: FR. RONALD MENEZES

MATUNGA-MUMBAI, September 07, 2012: The funeral of Fr. Ronald Menezes sdb was held at the Shrine of Don Bosco’s Madonna, Matunga - Mumbai at 4.00 p.m. The body arrived at the Provincial House at 2.00 p.m where the Salesians, family members, youth and well-wishers arrived to pay their last respects to him. Students from the 
schools of Don Bosco Matunga and Don Bosco Borivili formed a youthful corridor to have a long last loving look at their hero. It was amazing to witness a large turnaround of the faithful which flowed out of the shrine itself.
At 3.30 p.m his mortal remains was taken in a solemn procession to the Shrine. The Eucharist was presided by Auxiliary Bishop of Mumbai, Rt. Rev. Bosco Penha and concelebrated by over a hundred Salesian, Diocesan and Religious priests. In his homily, Provincial of the Mumbai Province, Fr. Michael Fernandes said, “Fr. Ronnie was a Priest – heart, body and soul, and it was his priesthood that caught the people’s attention”. The eulogies at the end of the Eucharist emphasized the gem of a person that Fr. Ronnie was to all whom he came in contact with. The family members were very grateful to all those present especially for sharing in their grief and showing their love for a great Salesian. Bishop Bosco added a personal note of appreciation to Fr. Ronnie for his support and inspiration to the Youth Ministry in the Archdiocese. The 
choir of St. Dominic Savio Church, Antop Hill raised a prayerful yet joyful praise even at the loss of their very own assistant parish priest Fr. Ronnie.
After the Eucharist the body was taken to the Sewri cemetry for a fitting burial of one of the most loving and inspiring Salesian, brother, uncle and pastor. Fr. Ronnie though not with us anymore, is playing a much greater role for us – that of interceding for us to God.
“After Fr. Maschio, never has a Salesian funeral been so solemn as that of Fr. Ronnie. He was a Giant of a Salesian who made giants of the young he came in contact with”, remarked a Salesian.
Affectionately called Ronnie, you will live forever in our hearts and in our lives. May your soul Rest in Peace.
