MOTHER MARY ADDS COLOUR - DRAWING COMPETITION

Ivan Pinto

NORTHERN ARABIAN VICARIATE, OCTOBER 22, 2012  :  On Saturdays, all roads lead to the Church of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus, in the Northern Arabian Vicariate. This is because the parish team of St. Therese of the child Jesus felt that the weekly ninety minutes of catechism is insufficient for the children. So, in an attempt to ground the children deeper into the Faith, Fr. Joy Marangattikala has initiated an additional two hours of catechesis every Saturday from 9.30 am – 11.30 am and he is supported by a team of 28 lay persons. On Fridays, the catechism classes border more on theoretical knowledge of our Faith. So on Saturdays, the accent is laid completely on deepening the Faith through numerous activities.

The list of activities conducted on Saturdays from 9:30 am to 11:30 am are: Adoration, audio-visual programs on Jesus, lives of saints, Bible stories, group discussions, debates, quizzes, prayer dances, action songs, speech competitions, various ways of praying, enactment of parables, different ways of praying the rosary, mapping, quiz games, etc. The response of the children is overwhelming as more than 500 have registered for the same.

Since, October is the month of the Rosary, so on Saturday, 13 October 2012, a Drawing Competition was organized on the theme “MOTHER MARY ADDS COLOUR TO OUR LIVES.” In spite of exams, more than 200 children participated in the competition.

On Saturday, 20 October 2012, our Bishop Camillo Ballin was accorded a warm welcome by the children through an action song. He expressed his delight on seeing the various activities conducted by the parish for the children. He encouraged the children to be close to our Lord Jesus Christ. Later, he gave away the prizes and the certificates to all the winners who in turn presented the bishop a hand-made card as a token of gratitude.

Finally, a biblical movie entitled “Noah’s Ark” was screened for the 400 children. Fr. Joy explained the spiritual significance of the movie. The program ended with a prayer and snacks were distributed before the children left the church.
