PEACE BEGINS WITH A SMILE
WADALA-MUMBAI, OCTOBER 3, 2012: To celebrate the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, the Shelter Don Bosco, Wadala, in its Silver Jubilee Year organized a Peace Rally to spread the message of Love and Peace. Around three hundred children took part in this rally walking silently on the streets of Mumbai.
On October 02, 2012 all the children from various sectors were gathered at Don Bosco Hall, Matunga. The participants were the Ex-boys of Shelter, DBDS children, People from Our Lady of Dolours Church, students from St. Joseph’s School, Matunga Past-Pupils, Boys and Staff of Shelter Don Bosco.
The rally began with a short introduction and a prayer service by Dn. Jesu Robinson in honour of Mahatma Gandhi. There were five boys who were dressed up in different costumes: one boy like Gandhiji and the other four in different religion dress. Fr. Elson Barretto, the Economer of Mumbai Province handed over the Indian Flag to Mahatma Gandhi, which he carried throughout the rally. They led the rally barefoot and they were followed by small children and then by big children. There were also many volunteers and police to help the rally to go peacefully.
It was indeed great to see the three hundred children along with few adults walking silently on the streets of Mumbai with banners and pluck card. It was a touching scene to see the two German Volunteers giving roses to the people on the road – like vendors, passerby, shopkeepers, passengers on the bus stand and many others. All accepted the rose with a bright smile spreading the message of PEACE. The rally started from Don Bosco, Matunga and carried on to King Circle – Matunga Flower Market – Ruea College – Five Garden – Wadala Circle – Auxilium School – St. Joseph’s School and ended the rally at Shelter Don Bosco.
After reaching Shelter Don Bosco snacks were given to all the participant followed by cultural program. Mr. Eustace Fernandes anchored the show. Br. Vishal Lopes welcomed the Guest with a bouquet of flower. The Shelter Boys rocked the stage with their stunning dance based on different culture of our Country, India. Fr. Elson Baretto brought ‘Bapu’ along with him on the stage and gave wonderful message. Then there was a video presentation saying “Hum Sab Ek Hai”. Fr. Roger Jones, the Rector of Shelter Don Bosco gave the vote of thanks. All who had come enjoyed the delicious lunch and went home happily with smile on their face. Really Peace Begins with a Smile.
