SILVER JUBILEE MELA – 2012

“THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVE AND CARE”

WADALA-MUMBAI, November 26, 2012:  The Annual Mela of Shelter Don Bosco was held on November 23, 2012 from 8.00 am to 9.00 pm at Don Bosco's School Quadrangle, Matunga.

 

The theme for the Mela was "Thank You for your Love and Care". The chief guest for the Inaugural Mela was Fr. Ajoy Fernandes, the Vice-Provincial of Mumbai Province. The other dignitaries present were the Bollywood Actor Sunil Shetty, Fr. Wilfred D’Souza, the Rector of Don Bosco School and Mr. Jayesh, President of Past Pupil of Association Matunga, along with Fr. Roger, the Rector and Director of Shelter Don Bosco, Wadala.

 

Fr. Ajoy said that the street work was something special for him from the time he was a brother. Sunil Shetty added that he loves to come to meet the children and advised them not take any substance which will harm them.

About 30 NGOs participated in the event and seven hundred children were registered from various NGOs. Few NGOs displayed their Services in the stall; they are Maria Ashiana, Don Bosco Balprafulta, Jeevan dhara, Yuva Child Line. Furthermore there were few awareness programme on health & hygiene, Medicare, substance abuse, HIV/ AIDS etc. All together there were around 2000 children who took part in the celebration.

 

Celebrities like Varun Dhawan, Boman Irani and others, graced the occasion by their presence and took the privilege of entertaining the kids towards the end of the day with their moving steps. They also gave message to the children to live a life in a positive way without any substance abuse.

Doctors from K.E.M. hospital rendered their service in the medical department. The NGOs gave information and created awareness about HIV, addiction, education, cancer, etc through various performance dances, skits, mimicry and Sher Shayari.

 

Salesian Cooperators from Wadala unit made themselves available as volunteers. There were also volunteers from various colleges and institutions. The shelter boys entertained the crowd by their dances and various other performances at the event.
