KAPADVANJ-AHMEDABAD, NOVEMBER 30, 2012 :  A Course on Life Orientation for boys from the eight till the twelfth grade was held at Don Bosco Kapadvanj from the 23 till the 25 of November 2012. Twenty eight Catholic youngsters from the villages Karamsad, Petlad, Kathlal and Anand, were present for the camp.

Fr. Mayank, the co-coordinator of this camp guided the sessions. He made them reflect on their interests, skills, and values they hold dear using exercises designed by Prafulta, Andheri. Using this data he helped them to look at various career options. After this he talked about the religious vocation and contrasted it with a life in the world. He pointed out that a religious vocation is not a career but a calling to dedicate one’s life to God.

Fr. Alex Fernandes too took a session on Faith. Since it was the year of faith Fr. Alex helped the boys to reflect on their responsibility towards the church. He pointed out that it was each one’s responsibility to look for Christ the Son of God within oneself. The boys also got a chance to have all there doubts cleared as all their questions were answered during the open discussion.

The boys attending the course interacted with the aspirants of Don Bosco Kapadvanj during the Mass, recreation and games. Some of these boys were impressed by the way our aspirants live and expressed the desire to be part of our institution in the coming year. The vocation promoter of the Gujarat region, Fr. Mayank has a planned strategy of vocation promotion. He first visits all the boy’s homes and talks to their parents. He next gets them to attend a seminar like this one where he speaks of life choices and broaches the topic of religious vocation. Promising boys are next invited for a pre-vocation camp where they are screened again and later invited for the vocation camp.

Besides the sessions, there was a lot of fun activity too. There were organized games, volley ball under flood lights, an inspirational movie, Lakshya and a picnic to Galteshwar. The boys were touched, to see all the Fathers participating in the activities; playing with them on the games field, eating with them, joining in their prayers and so on. Isn’t our Salesian assistance effective in touching the lives of the young?

The boys enjoyed themselves during the three days of reflection, input sessions and workshops that were conducted by Fr. Mayank and Fr. Alex. The boys went back with a new vision and a strong desire to grow in areas where they need to.
