Principal: Amarr G Prabhu
KURLA-MUMBAI, DECEMBER 01, 2012 : In the Industrial world “Accident” is a dirty word. It badly affects production, lowers the image of the company, results in financial losses and causes hardship and threat to the lives of employees. It is for this reason that every company tries it’s best to ensure that it has a good safety record, that safety procedures are in place and every employee practices them.
At St. Joseph’s ITI, Kurla, due importance is given to safety norms and their practice pertaining to every trade that is taught. A variety of methods are used to inculcate an attitude of safe living and safe working among the students. One of these was a Poster Competition for all the Technical students on the theme of “Safety” that was recently held. Prizes were announced and the excitement began.
In the process of designing the posters a lot of useful learning took place for the students. They learned to research on the topic and how it applied to the industry as per their trade. They worked in teams to brainstorm ideas, select the best and find a way to communicate those ideas effectively through a poster. Aspects of good designing, catchy slogans and messages had to be thought through. The entire exercise drew out several skills of the sixty-seven students who took part.
The Poster Competition on safety was judged by an eminent jury; Fr. Joe Braganza, Exec-Director, Department of Mass Media, Dr. N. Prasanna, Head Of Department of the Mechanical Department of Don Bosco Institute of Technology and Mr. M. B. Rane Manager, Mediconz International Pvt. Ltd. (Ex-Safety Officer and winner of many safety competitions). The judges were in awe of the expressions of safety communicated through the posters and commended the enthusiastic spirit of participation and the thought provoking depictions.
