ST. JOSEPH’S INDUSTRIAL TRAINING INSTITUTE CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS

Mr. Amaar Prabhu

KURLA-MUMBAI, JANUARY 02, 2013 :   When you work on machines or with power and hand tools for hours together six days a week at St. Joseph’s Industrial Training Institute, you concentrate on precision and strive to follow set procedures. This can get pretty stressful. So the celebration of Christmas was a welcome break for the Three hundred and fifty six students of the Institute.

Every student of St. Joseph’s Industrial Training Institute knows by his or her training that you do not get an excellent product unless you start at the drawing board. So the Christmas party and the decorations of the campus was meticulously planned. With imagination and creativity running right combined with the mastery of technical skills, the Don Bosco Centre for Learning (DBCL) buildings took on a Christmas look. Be it paper, iron, sheet metal, wood, thermocol, spheres or electrical lighting each was crafted into masterpieces that provided the ambience to make Christmas truly a Celebration.

In keeping with Salesian style the solemnity and richness of the feast was focused on through a beautiful ceremony held in the Mondini Hall on December 22 morning. The staff and students along with Fr. Colbert da Silva, Executive Director of SJITI and Fr. Joe Braganza participated in a program that dwelt on “The Light of Christ.” Selected readings from Holy Scripture with a reflection by the students provided a historical background to the feast.

The Meaning of Christmas a skit represented the theme of caring, sharing and giving, so necessary in today’s world that is centered around a “Me and Mine” attitude. A powerful script brought alive by some good acting captured the minds and moved the hearts of the audience leading them to introspect on the reason why Jesus was born and what he taught. A remarkable performance indeed! A brief prayer followed and then Fr. Colbert gave the Christmas message. He also commended the students for the good work done and the exemplary discipline during the program.

A Christmas celebration isn’t complete without Santa Claus and yes he stepped into the party with his Ho! Ho! Ho! and distribution of sweets. The DJ churned up the music and in a flash the students were dancing to their favourite tunes.

The Director Fr. Adolph, mingled with the boys wishing them a Holy and blessed Christmas encouraging them to make a commitment to care and protect all women and girls. With the serving of snacks the two hours of Christmas fellowship came to a close.

The Staff had a secret Santa as part of the celebration. Each of them had brought a gift for one another. There was much fun and laughter with the unwrapping of gifts. On a joyous note one could hear “Merry Christmas” resound all over the campus as everyone dispersed to meet again in the New Year.
