CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR THE SR. CITIZENS AND WIDOWS/WIDOWERS

Ms. Celine D’Silva

WADALA(W)-MUMBAI, JANUARY 07, 2012:  A Christmas Party was organized by the DCE for the Sr. Citizens & widows/widowers of our Parish on December 30, 2012.   The response was good with  67 enthusiastic participants.

This year the party was different from the  regular parties for it was an infotainment.  We had a group of eleven Sr. citizens ladies from different parishes who did the Line Dance for us and later taught our parishioners the basic steps and they were surprised that many could pick it up so fast.

Later in the morning we also had Mrs Lorna and Mrs Mary Ann, both widows from the Hope and Life Foundation to speak to us on their experiences as widows and how they were helped by this organization.   They have encouraged our widows and widowers to commence this cell in our Parish.

Fr. Godfrey D’Sa, our Parish Priest, addressed the group and spoke about commencement of the Sr. Citizen club. To begin with, it would be organized twice a week in the evenings  for our senior citizens, and later to be extended according to the response. He said that this was his priority and he would make arrangements for pickups at certain convenient locations of the parish.  Arrangements would also be made for supply of tea, and the Sr. Citizens could then attend the evening mass and adoration every Thursday.

The participants were then engaged in a group activity, where each group had to dress up one member as Santa with the materials  provided . The end product was a delight to behold, as they marched through the hall all decked up as Father Christmas.

They then danced to  the tunes from the Goan  masala. That really created an appetite for the sumptuous lunch provided by the DCE team. The most interesting item was saved for the last, when the real Santa came in to the cheering of the group members, danced away with some of the elders and then gave each one a beautiful gift. Each and every one enjoyed themselves.
