ST. JOSEPH’S INDUSTRIAL TRAINING INSTITUTE FORTY NINETH ANNUAL SPORTS MEET

Mr. Amaar G Prabhu

KURLA-MUMBAI, JANUARY 29, 2013 : The word ‘Sports’ is enough to stir up a heap of emotions like enthusiasm, excitement, competition and thrill for the students12, 13 and 19  of St. Joseph’s Industrial Training Institute (SJITI). That’s just what transpired on January 12, 13 and 19, 2013.

The main intention of the sports festival was to motivate every student to take part in some event or the other and so games like Football, Box Cricket, Volley ball, Kho-Kho, Penalty Shoot-out (for girls), Badminton (for girls), 100 meters race for boys and girls, 4x100 meter relay, 800 meter race, tug-of-war and a backward walking race were arranged for students and staff.

The entire student body of SJITI was divided into 4 houses. Dressed in their respective house colors of Red, Green, Blue and Yellow not only gave the competition arena a grand splash of colour but also created a sense of uniformity and discipline including a spirit of fair competition, where each house strove to do it’s best to win the coveted shield.

The Sports Festival was inaugurated on January 12 and ran through the week towards the later part of the day. This gave the students an opportunity to rest as well as to continue with their study program.

On the 19, the final day of the Sports meet, festivities began at 8.30 am with a grand March Past led by the Institute’s Student Representative and the various house captains.  The Chief Guest, Mr. Anil Gupte, Associate General Manager, HR Godrej & Boyce, took the salute. The March Past, the Lighting of the Torch, the sportsman’s prayer and taking of the Oath brought a sense of solemnity to the event. And with that the finals of the games began with great excitement and loud cheering.

When the last race was run and the whistle blew to end the final of the games, it was the time for glory as the prize winners accepted their trophies from the Chief Guest and other dignitaries like Fr. Colbert da Silva and Fr. Joe Braganza in the early afternoon.

Mr. Anil Gupte in his speech congratulated the students on their performance and talked about how this sportsman spirit should be carried forward into the industry so that their assigned tasks would be accomplished with similar zest.

Fr. Colbert too praised the boys for their whole hearted participation and even more for their discipline all through the day.

Mr Amarr G Prabhu, the Principal of SJITI, thanked the Chief Guest and dignitaries and expressed his appreciation for the hard work and commitment of the entire staff.

The 49 Annual Sports Meet of SJITI came to a close at 3.00 p m with the clicking of photographs for posterity and of course the loud chants of BOSCO, BOSCO, BOSCO, DON BOSCO.!!!
