SAVIO KINDERGARTEN'S ANNUAL DAY CELEBRATIONS

Renita D'souza

BORIVLI-MUMBAI, FEBRUARY 22, 2013 :  February 02, 2013 was when the Savio Kindergarten held its annual day function along with the NIOS section. It was the final culmination of weeks of practice and rehearsals.

The weather was perfect and it added to the fun and excitement in the air. The programme began at 6p.m. as per schedule, with the guard of honour compromising of the Chief Guest along with the school management.

The celebrations began with a prayer dance performed by the NIOS students. This was followed by a lively action song "If I Were A Butterfly" by the little ones of Sr. Kg.

The dignitaries were invited on stage and felicitated by the students of NIOS and Sr. Kg. Fr. Rector William Falcao addressed the audience with a short but inspiring speech.  Our Chief Guest, Mrs Severina Joseph, head mistress of Our Lady Of Remedy School, primary section, was then requested to say a few words.

We began with the eagerly awaited performances of the Jr. and Sr. Kg children. The Jr. Kg performed various dances from across the different states of India. The theme, "We are One" was strongly propagated by them. They were attired in the native costumes of the various states and made an absolutely appealing sight. Dances of Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Nagaland, Kashmiri and South India were presented.

"Reliving your childhood with nature" was the central theme of the performances put up by the Sr. Kg children. They performed a medley of dances and were very aptly attired in costumes replicating different forms of nature like the earth, sun, moon, stars, trees, animals, birds etc. "Don't Kill The World" was emphasised through all their performances.

Both the performances of the Jr. and Sr. Kg were a wonderful fusion of music, rhythm and dance.

Fr. Principal George Carlos thanked all the staff, choreographers and all concerned for their support and co-operation. It was then time for the Chief Guest to honour some of the Sr. Kg. children for acquiring all round proficiency in their previous academic year.

The final item was the Hymn, "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands" sung by the children of the NIOS together with the tiny tots of the Kg. class.

The programme rose to a final crescendo when the management, staff, a few parents,  choreographers and children came on stage and did a few dance moves, waving and thanking everyone for their presence that evening.

It was a memorable show, that is sure to linger for a long time in the minds of those in attendance.
