STEPPING STONES FOR SMALL CHRISTIAN COMMUNITIES IN KUWAIT
Amira Peter
NORTHERN ARABIAN VICARIATE, FEBRUARY 25, 2013: After the initial introduction in January, Fr. Franco Pereira conducted the second and the third sessions on Small Christian Communities (SCCs) for the St Therese Parish in the Northern Vicariate of Kuwait on February 07 and 21, 2013. It was attended by about fifty parishioners from across the parish.
Having paved the way for SCCs in the introductory presentation a couple of weeks ago, Fr. Franco conducted a "stepping stones" session for us on Thursday, 07 February. This session was aimed at familiarizing the Parishioners with the guidelines for conducting Small Christian Communities.
To ensure continued attendance at the SCCs, Fr. Franco highlighted the importance of being respectful of people's time and the need to stay within the framework of the program. He advised animators to be time-conscious by adhering to start and end times as also specific session timings.
Next, he provided us with the frameworkof conducting SCCs by taking us through the seven steps of conducting SCCs. To better illustrate the process, Fr. Franco conducted a mock SCC session among the group based on this Sunday's Gospel reading. Acting as the lead animator, Fr. Franco took us through the seven steps, gently steering us away from some typical pitfalls and towards the right path.
On Thursday, 21 February, Fr Franco formed groups of seven members and invited the participants to pray for thirty minutes using the seven step method. The Gospel text of Bartimaeus was offered as a text for prayer. When the prayer moments ended, all were called together for a feedback.
In the final session, few clarifications were sought and guidance asked for on certain matters. What was evident was the fact that every participant was enthused to begin SCC's in the parish.
The Stepping Stones session was concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Fr. Joy and Fr. Blany. They thanked Fr. Franco profusely for continuing to guide and encourage our Parish in this new and meaningful endeavor!
"Because the Church is communion, the new 'basic communities', if they truly live in unity with the Church, are a true expression of communion and a means of construction of a more profound communion. They are thus cause for great hope for the life of the Church" (Pope John Paul II,The Mission of the Redeemer, 51).
