VALEDICTORY FUNCTION OF ANNUAL NATIONAL YAR SEMINAR

MATUNGA-MUMBAI, MARCH 04, 2013: The Annual National YaR (Young at Risk) Seminar centred on the theme, 'Advocacy on Behalf of the Young at Risk' came to a close at 3.30pm on March 02, 2013 at Don Bosco Provincial House Matunga. The two-day Seminar, one of the major segments of the four-day YaR convention organized by Don Bosco National YaR Forum, New Delhi and YaR Commission, Salesian Province of Mumbai marks the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Shelter Don Bosco, Wadala.
"Advocacy is the art of obtaining justice by unravelling the truth, and truth is discovered with the help of the law and the correct application and interpretation of the law. Training in advocacy therefore envisages the acquisition of sufficient knowledge of the relevant laws and correct application of the laws to the problems encountered", said the chief guest, Justice Aloysius Aguiar, Former Judge, Mumbai High Court. He released the books, 'The Rapid Assessment Study of Street Children in Bangalore' and 'The Rapid Assessment Study of Street Children in Mumbai' edited by Dr Susan Mathews and Ms Veena Sharma. "The books are part of the efforts towards building a scientific temper in our YaR settings," said Fr. Barnabe SDB.
At the release of the book on Formation, "Forming Candidates for the Apostolate of the Marginalized", by Fr. Barnabe SDB. Fr. Mathew Thomas, Secretary, YaR Forum India said that the real beneficiaries of the book would ultimately be the young at Risk. The YaR coordinators from the various Salesian Provinces of India came forward and presented their respective plans of action- 'the take away', from the two-day Annual National YaR Seminar at the beginning of the program. Fr. Steve Rodrigues SDB, Coordinator, YaR Commission, Mumbai welcomed the gathering and compered the program and Fr. Ajoy Fernandes, Vice Provincial, Salesian Province of Mumbai, proposed the vote of thanks.
Mr Josantony Joseph, Advisor to the Commissioner on Food Security (Maharashtra) and Fr. Thomas Pallithanam SDB, Director, PARA, East Godawari, the facilitators of the seminar and over one hundred delegates from seventy six Don Bosco YaR centres (Priests, Brothers, Sisters and Lay Collaborators) and various networking organizations are participating in the program.
