MATUNGA-MUMBAI, JULY 27, 2013: The boarders of Don Bosco Matunga with Fr. Rector and Fr. Richard inaugurated the Marian Month on 16 July 2013, the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The Assistants, Clarence and Justus led the boys very ably.
The Emcee invited everyone to participate actively in this inaugural function. He requested Fr. Rector to garland the statue of Our Lady while everyone joined in singing 'We bring you flowers, Mary'. The gospel of John was read, narrating how Mary went out of her way to help the couple at the wedding feast at Cana and saved them from shame. This narration aptly brought out the theme of the Marian Month 'Mary, teach us to live in love'. The Rector, then, addressed the gathering placing emphasis on 'love' - how we must love God, others and oneself and thus imitate Mary in her love as shown in the gospel passage. Fr Rector explained the importance of the scapular as Mary's uniform worn over both shoulders; he then put a scapular over each one's shoulder. The captains of the six Marian teams were then invested with a medal as a sign of their leadership. Fr Richard, the confessor, declared the Marian Month open by unveiling the calendar of activities for the Month. The programme concluded with the singing of the Marian Anthem.
Truly, the inaugural programme has boosted the boys to do something for Our Blessed Mother. There will be many interesting and inspiring activities lined up all through the month.
