LONAVLA-MAHARASHTRA, AUGUST 3, 2013: Under the competent guidance of Fr Lorenzo D'Souza, sdb, the Principal of Don Bosco High School and Junior College, Lonavla, the Past Pupils organized an Inter-School 5-A Side Football Tournament in the indoor football court in the premises itself on 28 July, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Twelve school teams along with their coaches and support team participated in this Annual Tournament.
Apart from the Khandala and Lonavla teams, the organizers invited other school teams from Pune, Andheri and Borivli. The names of the 12 teams are enlisted below: Don Bosco - Borivli; Dominic Savio - Andheri; St. Vincent's A and B - Pune; D.C. A and B - Khandala; Bhonde - Lonavla; Kaivalya Dham - Lonavla; and Don Bosco - Lonavla A and B. The opening ceremony began with a visual clip of an All-Faith prayer viewed by the audience. Fr Solomon Rapol, sdb, the Rector of Don Bosco Lonavla, welcomed the gathering with his warm words of love. He wished each one a pleasant football game. The matches began with the kick-off by the Rector. The fixtures were drawn in a 16-set league system in order to ensure that each team played a good number of games against other teams. The completion of the league matches marked the beginning of the semi-finals and finals. The semi-finals were played between Don Bosco Lonavla A v/s Dominic Savio Andheri and Don Bosco Lonavla B v/s St. Vincent's Pune. The finals were played between Don Bosco Lonavla A v/s Don Bosco Borivli. The Don Bosco Borivli team, who displayed an excellent and skilled performance, bagged the honors of the championship of the Annual Inter-School 5A Side Football Tournament.
The tournament ended with the Prize Distribution Ceremony. Each of the winning team members and the runners-up received medals, a trophy and a certificate. Wayne Trindade received the Best Player Award and Aaron received the Top Goal Scorer Award.
Besides the cheers and tears, the efficient organization on the part of Fr. D'Souza and his team of Past Pupils could not go unnoticed. Jijo and Tejas along with Mayur, Akash, Bilal, Akshay, Nihal, Jerel, Varun, Sachin and Adil ensured that the day was planned well. Due to this preparation, the Football Tournament tasted success and admiration. Fr. D'Souza thanked the core group of Past Pupils for their initiative, sacrifice and co-operation. He also thanked the Community of Don Bosco Lonavla and the aspirants and apostolic boys.
