MEGHWADI, AUGUST 19, 2013: On 15th August, 2013, Don Bosco BP organised an awareness program at the GB Panth foundation hall - Meghwadi for the people of the K-east Ward Slum Community. The theme for this program was 'Independence from Addiction'.
This occasion was graced by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dr. Mohan Kumar Dahikar, Mr. Lakshman Pujari and Dilip Nalawade, the trustees of G. B. Panth Foundation, and Mr. Satish Kumar. The program began with the lighting of the lamp and felicitation with colorful paper flowers made by the children residing at the Dongri Children's home.
The DCP shared his concern on the issue and his insights on the parent's responsibility in prevention of drug addiction. He concluded his speech with the message 'Say NO to one and all drugs'. This was followed by Sushma Awagade speaking on the scenario of addiction in India post-Independence.
The night class students then performed a graceful dance in honor of our independence. This was followed by two speeches by the 'Bal Sanghatnas' on the importance of education and the negative effects of drug addiction.
The staff of DBBP conducted a demonstration on the reasons for people getting addicted to drugs as well as the harmful social, psychological and physiological effects of drug use and how we can help reduce the problem. Sr. Jacinta then moderated a discussion on prevention of drug addiction. Mr. Lakshman Pujari concluded the program with a short speech on the history of addiction and a few words of advice for the youth.
