Matunga-mumbai, December 2, 2013: After the Diwali break the students of Don Bosco High School, Matunga returned to the school enthused for a fresh start and they did begin with a bang – The Sports Festival 2013. In the very first week of school the students were all geared for the competition. The sports festival was held on 22nd /23rd November, 2013 – on campus for the first day and at St. Xavier's Sports Ground, Parel the next day. The Silver Jubilarian of the school, Ms Shobha D'Souza, Supervisor of the Primary section was the chief Guest for the Sports Day.
The Sports Festival on the first day was filled with well organized events like football, basketball, volleyball, fun games, rink football, langdi, not leaving out carom, chess and Table Tennis. The boys of Std. IX A officiated as referees. The events were divided according to their various categories - sub-juniors, inters and seniors.
After many years the school returned on the second day to St. Xavier's ground for the finals of the field and track events. The stands looked colourful as the boys wore their house jerseys and many of their parents graced the occasion that began at 1.00 pm and concluded at 6.00 pm. The Chief Guest, Ms. Shobha D'Souza made her appearance at the venue accompanied by her husband and the school management team. She took the salute at the march past, hoisted the flag and after a brief speech declared the games open. After the lighting of the torch and the sportsman's prayer the field events followed.
Cheers and supportive shouts filled the sporting arena. The Green House emerged winners of the Sports Festival. The parent's race saw a number of participants. The relay race, the marathon and the tug-of-war first between students and then between the teachers aroused the excitement of the spectators. The National Anthem and the lowering of the school flag brought to a closure this very enjoyable annual event.
