NORTH ARABIAN VICARIATE, SEPTEMBER 25, 2014: On 20 September 2014 at about 11:30 am the courtyard of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish, Salmiya was abuzz with sounds of innocent laughter and joyful voices. It was the Salmiya Parish's "Altar Servers Annual Appreciation Day" organized by the Salesian Cooperators in collaboration with the Parish Priest. Appreciation Day is held annually to express gratitude and appreciation to the altar servers for their service to the parish. Altar servers who are regular for the monthly meetings and for altar serving are invited for the programme. Around fifty five kids gathered to celebrate a day of prayer, fun and games!
The programme began with a prayer by one of the altar servers – an exciting day awaited, thanks to the planning and pains taken by the cooperators. An interactive ice-breaker game was followed by the screening of a short film on Dominic Savio, action songs and a set of lively games. Compere Jesley and DJ Marcus kept the boys on their feet. "The dance and music was the best part of the day, and DJ Marcus was fab" exclaimed Jayson Fernandes.
Just before lunch, the award ceremony – the highlight of the day, was conducted. Three boys were awarded gifts and medals for their extraordinary and excellent services as altar servers, while seventeen boys were awarded medals for their outstanding services as altar servers. The awards were presented by Fr. Lionel Braganza and Fr. Blany Pinto. Post lunch a biblical quiz, was conducted on the format of Kaun Banega Crorepati, which was named "Kaun Banega Jesus ka Friend" which was enjoyed by one and all. Jophin, one of the participants remarked, "It was a good quiz; we gained a lot of knowledge."
A short talent show was held, where the boys showcased their talents through dance and song. This was followed by more interactive, fun-filled games and spot prizes. The day ended with a dance session followed by a vote of thanks by Fr. Blany Pinto. Nikhil Sajan said "This programme is once a year which gives me great joy; having fun with my friends and learning something new", while Favin Fernandes remarked, "I think this was the most incredible day of my life. I thank the Lord and the Cooperators for arranging this function for us". The kids unanimously declared that they had never experienced a more memorable and fun filled day!
