BIS # 4172 RESIDENTS OF UJNI VILLAGE CELEBRATE THEIR VILLAGE FEAST

SAVEDI-AHMEDNAGAR, OCTOBER 9, 2014: St. John Bosco Church, Savedi, Ahmednagar has fourteen villages. The people of these villages are administered/rendered regular spiritual activities like Eucharist, retreats, spiritual talks, camps for First Holy Communicants and confirmandi, visits of priests, marriage rectification and assistance for funeral, 40th day mass and marriages and other such services. For last fifteen years some of the promising catholic couples in the village of Ujni were reluctant to rectify their marriages since it involved documentation which would lead them to the loss of the facilities they received as Schedule Tribes and Schedule Castes.


Fr. Manuel Murzello, convinced them to rectify their marriages.  He stayed in this villages for nights prepared them for this step. On October 3, 2014, ten couples rectified their marriage and received the sacrament of matrimony as per the catholic faith. On Saturday, October 4, 2014 the villagers celebrated their village feast. The day began with a procession of Our Lady's Statue been carried through the whole village followed by the Eucharistic Celebration. Fr. Anton D'souza, was the main celebrant for the feast.  In his homily he illustrated the various qualities of Our Lady such as humility, obedience, her willingness to do God's will etc. The boarders were the main choir group for the feast. 


Following the celebration of the mass the age old tradition of picking up a coconut and announcing the amount of contribution for next year was carried on.  The villagers promised to sponsor Rs. 1,00,000/-  for the village feast day celebration. The climax of the feast day was the cultural programme followed by the meal that was sponsored for the whole village.
