by BIS Correspondent

PUNE-MAHARASHTRA, NOVEMBER 11, 2014: Cl. Jacob Palaparambil, SDB was conferred the diaconate by His Excellency Mar Joseph Kollamparambil, CMI, Eparch of the Syro-Malabar eparchy of Jagdalpur at Carmel Parish on  November 9, 2014 along with four other CMI brothers. The Holy Qurbana was presided by him along with Fr. Anthony Puthenangadi, the Rector of Carmel Bhavan and Fr. Edison Fernandes, the vice Rector of DBYC, Koregaon Park as concelebrants.

The Eucharistic celebration was celebrated in the traditional East Syrian Rite (commonly known as the Syro-Malabar Rite) with a lot of symbolism and deep meaning. The liturgy was well animated and the choir sang beautifully all throughout the liturgy. To be a deacon means to be a servant and to reach out to all those in need, especially at the liturgical celebrations. In his homily, the bishop highlighted this servant-attitude of a deacon, which was the attitude of Christ himself. He exhorted all of them to cultivate this attitude of Christ and be of service to one another.

Along with the diaconate ordination, some of the CMI brothers also received the minor orders of sub-diaconate. After the Holy Eucharist, there was a celebration at DBYC, Koregaon Park together with the community members. The parents of Cl. Jacob had also come in order to witness the diaconal ordination of their son, along with his other relatives.
