by Mathew Valiyakattel SDB and Romero D'Souza SDB

JERUSALEM, DECEMBER 29, 2014: On December 28, 2014 the Salesian Province of Jesus the Adolescent – Middle East (MOR) celebrated the provincial community day. The communites of Cremisan, Beitgemal, Nazareth and Ratisbonne gathered together at Bethlehem, who were the host for the day . The celebration was held on the day of the feast of the Holy Family after the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. The celebration was divided into three parts which consisted of the formative; the Eucharistic; and the Fraternal.

During the formative session of the celebration, being the year of the consecrated life, confreres who were celebrating their jubilee were felicitated and  were invited to share their experiences of their religious life. Signor Sante Tombolato, Don Gianni Caputa and Singor Luca Salvatore gave moving testimonies to their long years of religious life. Don Giorgis Giuseppe who could not attend the celebrations due to his sickness wrote a wonderful letter which was read during the meeting by Don Pier Giorgio.

Later, the Provincial congratulated and thanked every confrere who had given his life to the Salesian congregation and above all to the province of MOR. The formative session was followed by the Eucharistic celebration which was presided over by the Provincial Rev. Fr. Munir El Rai. The liturgy and the singing were organized by the community of Ratisbonne, Jerusalem. During the mass, the Provincial exhorted the Salesians to live our lives of authenticity in our religious life, of love for God, for the community and the missionary zeal, of respect for each other and have the culture of fraternal correction, and also to cultivate the 'Salesian Family Spirit' modelled after the Holy Family of Nazareth.

After the Holy Eucharist, the confreres gathered together for a solemn meal followed by a series of entertainment programmes. The cheerful mood continued with joyful songs sung by young confreres as well as the old, in different languages. To add fun to these moments there was also magic performances by Frs. Pier Giorgio Gianazza and Nguyen Hoang Thi Joseph.

The celebrations came to an end with the Provincial thanking all the confreres for their whole hearted participation in keeping with the traditional Family Spirit and also thanked all the confreres for their service in the province. It was indeed a day to praise and thank God for the gift of the Salesian vocation and of coming together in love, a day to where we gathered to pray for the Provincial and his council, and for the Province.
