KUWAIT, JUNE 8, 2015 : Think you know everything about the life of Don Bosco?
Youth from St. Therese of the Child Jesus parish in Kuwait participated in a quiz competition on the life and times of the great saint on May 30. It was conducted by the Salesian Cooperators of Kuwait to commemorate the Bi-Centennial birthday of Don Bosco.
The competition was open to youth aged between 12 and 18 years and it drew a strong response, with 21 teams testing their wits against the other.
Father Franco Pereira SDB addressed the youth at the onset and encouraged them to practice Don Bosco's way of prayer- saying short prayers through the day.
Siby George, the Quiz master, began the qualifying round, where each team was handed over the first set of 21 questions for completion in 15 minutes.
Six leading teams were then shortlisted to move to the next round. Those that did not qualify, joined as their support teams. The six leaders were named after the Salesian saints, St. Louis Guanella, St. Joseph Cafasso, St. Callistus Caravario, St. Leonard Murialdo, St. Mary Mazzarello and St. Louis Orione.
Questions ranged from rapid-fire, to crosswords, to puzzles, to word searches and word scrambler games.
Father Blany Pinto SDB, the Parish Priest, announced the results at the end of the contest. Team St. Leonard Murialdo bagged first place.
"It was an amazing experience to learn about Saint Don Bosco. Even if we didn't win the first place, we would still be proud of ourselves that we participated," a participant, from the winning team, said.
Team St. Louis Guanella edged out team St. Louis Orione, in a tie-breaker to emerge as runners-up.
"The essence of Don Bosco's message was well brought out by the Quiz. It was very well organised. Thank you for giving us an opportunity to participate," added another contestant.
The winners received plaques and gold medals, while the runners up were given silver medals. Every contestant received participation certificates.
