GORAI, JUN 6, 2015: Don Bosco institutions across the country are known for their immense contribution to the field of sport. On June 1, the Don Bosco brand added yet another feather to its illustrious list of contributions, by inaugurating the Don Bosco Water Sports Academy at the Gorai Jetty.
Locals in the area can now make use of the two water scooters and an eight-seater cruise boat.
In July, 24 locals from Gorai, Manori and Uttan will be trained at the academy to become life guards, in conjunction with the SOLAS (Saving of Life at Sea), is an international maritime safety module.
Plans are also being put in place for wind surfing courses. These programmes are being funded by the Development office and are part of an outreach programme of Bosco Boys Home towards empowering marginalised youth and training them towards generating sustainable income.
Gopal Shetty, a Member of Parliament, was present for inauguration of the academy.
Father Donald Fernandes sdb, the Principal of Don Bosco school, Borivali, Father Anthony Santarita sdb – Director of Bosco Boys Home, Rossi D'souza – Sarpanch of Gorai, several parishioners and youth were also present.
