BIS #4591 ALL-FAITH MEMORIAL SERVICE

by BIS Correspondent

MUMBAI, OCT 20, 2015:  An all-faith Memorial service for late Bernadette D'Souza, Erwin D'Souza, Taha Shaikh, Sharjeel Sheikh, Aakash Thappar, Brian Fernandes and Sajid Chowdhari, victims of a tragedy that claimed their lives, was held on October 20 at the Don Bosco campus, Kurla.

The family, friends and teachers of the five engineering students and two BMM students - who perished when a fire broke out at Kurla's Kinara hotel - prayed together for their eternal repose.

Readings from the Bhagavad Gita, the Holy Bible and the Quran, as well as words of comfort from Father Colbert da Silva, the Rector of DBCL Kurla, Dr Prasanna Nambiar the DBIT Principal and Father Joe Braganza, the Executive Director of the BMM department, helped those present to pray for the departed students and take courage from their faith to look beyond their grief to eternal life.

Tributes through music and songs, by the students, helped the assembly to recall fondly their dearly-departed friends.

It was a solemn moment for the gathering. It brought together the families of the departed students and the academic community of Don Bosco Centre for Learning in solidarity, faith and hope.

It was also a moment of strengthening their resolve to stand up against the callous neglect of those responsible for illegal, hazardous and potentially fatal structures that exist in the city of Mumbai.
