BIS #4598 CONTRIBUTING TO THE WELFARE OF OUR SOLDIERS

MUMBAI, OCT 30, 2015: The Indian Army is an institution with over a hundred thousand military personnel on active duty. It's an institution that protects the common man and helps keep us safe.

 

The staff and students of Don Bosco High School, Matunga joined forces to collect funds for the welfare of this very institution.

 

The Government recognised Don Bosco High School's contribution to the Flag Day Fund on October 28 at a ceremony held at St. Xavier's College.

 

The school raised Rs 5.1 lakh for the fund, which is the highest amount raised by a city school.

 

The Defence Minister's Committee set up the fund in 1949. Today, it is managed throughout the country by the by local arms of the Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB), which is part of the Ministry of Defence.

 

The money is used for welfare of the war bereaved, war disabled and other ex-servicemen and serving personnel.

 

The collection is organised both by official and non-official means through voluntary organisations.

 

BB Chavan, deputy director of education, Mumbai region, thanked the South Mumbai schools for collecting an amount of Rs. 1.3 crore in total.

 

Christina Mascarenhas, supervisor of standard seven and eight, collected the award on behalf of Don Bosco School, Matunga.
