BIS #4629 YOUNG PRIESTS REFLECT ON ROLE OF SALESIANS

by Father Leon Cruz

MUMBAI, DEC 11, 2015: Young priests from the Mumbai province attended a two-day long programme on December 9 and 10, animated by Father Savio Silveira, the Vice-Provincial, Father Godfrey D'Sa and Dn Ivan Fenandes at the Provincial House in Matunga, to help them reflect on the role of Salesians in the 21st century.

Dn Ivan and Father D'Sa first analysed the challenges young priests face regularly. They also focused on the demanding role of Salesians in society today, especially in dealing with those in the adult-youth category i.e people above the age of 18.

The sessions highlighted various relevant topics like the present day crisis, role of a Salesian, creating a vision, making a difference, dealing with addictions like pornography, value of family and relationships. The sessions were interactive and focussed on the practical aspects.

At the end of the programme, each young priest came forward with concrete ideas and proposals for the community and province. To ensure its implementation, Father Silveira proposed another meeting after four months to review the fruitfulness of the proposed ideas and suggestions.
