PUNE, JAN 29, 2015: The parishioners of Sacred Heart church in Yerwada celebrated Catechetical Day on January 24 by participating in activities in line with the theme, 'Sports for Peace'.

The theme was aimed at competing in sport with a different attitude, as the attitude of teamwork, togetherness and caring for others would help bring about peace through sports. The event began after the morning Holy Eucharist.

Youngsters gathered on the school assembly ground, where the youth of the parish performed an action song 'Run dor unity'. The youth acted out the actions on the stage and the others followed in their footsteps.

Balloons were released to mark the inauguration of the day. Twelve separate teams were then registered under nature-themed names like volcano, tsunami and earthquake. The youth then moved to the hall to play games like Channel of peace, an obstacle race and hula hoops. Each game helped promote values like teamwork.

There was 'Time out' between games and each leader of the team, led his team into a time of reflection – to discuss what they learned from the game. They discussed whether they put the concept into practice and how they felt about playing in a team.

A prize distribution ceremony followed and the teams that completed the games in the shortest possible time won top honours. A special prize for the team that understood and lived the concept of peace was awarded.
