By Father Rixson Nigrel

WALVANDA, SEP 10, 2016: Bosco Samajik Vikas Sanstha (BSVS) organised a full-day orientation programme on September 8 for the neighbourhood farmers, on how to cultivate a good quality crop of Drum Stick.

Two agriculturalists, Rahul Aher and Jitendra Jhole had earlier visited Nandgaon, Nashik to see the cultivation of the crop. At Nandgaon, they learnt the know-hows of how to cultivate a good drum stick crop.

On returning, their aim was to convince the farmers of Walvanda, the advantages of having this crop. They gave inputs about drum sticks especially the Four parameters involved in its cultivation: Process of cultivation, Fertiliser and Pesticides to be used, Budgeting and Marketing.

Initially, the farmers were apprehensive about starting Drum Stick cultivation in their fields.  The experts patiently answered their queries and encouraged them.

The farmers have now decided to visit Nadgaon on September 12, to see first-hand the cultivation of drum sticks. Father Anaclete D'Mello, Director of BSVS organised the workshop.
